Matthew Carroll is an award-winning, veteran Art Director working as a Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy Portland.
He has worked at W+K since 2004. His work has included building building and reinventing brands like KFC, Old Spice, Fisher-Price, Facebook, Uber, Yoplait and more. Drawing on his background as an interactive technologist and graphic designer, his work not only includes traditional advertising but also apps, games, products, events, branding and short-form documentaries.
He has led teams as a creative director on Visa, Samsung, Facebook, Travel Oregon, Autodesk, Fisher-Price and Samsung.
The primary focus of his work is to help brands achieve cultural relevance through breakthrough media-agnostic creative.
Before W+K, Matthew worked at digital and brand design studios and as an adjunct professor of typography and design at Portland State University. He holds a MFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and a BBA in International Business from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
Matthew has won awards and at major competitions, including Cannes Lions, Webby Awards, Effies, D&AD and One Show. His work has been featured in Fast Company, Fortune, Time Magazine, USA Today and talked about on Late Night with Seth Myers and on NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me.
