Matthew Carroll is an award-winning, veteran Art Director working as a Creative Director at Wieden+Kennedy Portland.

He has worked at W+K since 2004, building and reinventing brands like KFC, Old Spice, Fisher-Price, Velveeta, Facebook, Uber, Yoplait, Visa and more. Drawing on his background as an interactive technologist and graphic designer, his work not only includes traditional advertising but also apps, games, products, events, branding and short-form documentaries.

Matthew has led teams as a creative director on Visa, Samsung, Facebook, Travel Oregon, Autodesk, P&G, Fisher-Price and Samsung.

The primary focus of his work is to help brands achieve cultural relevance through breakthrough, media-agnostic creative.

Before W+K, Matthew worked at design and digital agencies in Portland, Los Angeles and Austin. He aslo taught typography and design as an an adjunct professor of at Portland State University.

He holds a MFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and a BBA in International Business from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He also received an Entrepreneurial Fellowship at California Institute of Technology.

Matthew has won industry awards including Cannes Lions, Webby Awards, Effies, Clios, AICP Next, D&AD and One Show. His work has been featured in Fast Company, Fortune, Time Magazine, Popsugar, USA Today and talked about on Late Night with Seth Myers and on NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me.
